Having worked for many years in motorsport public relations and social media management, I soon noticed the crossover with instructional design and how they complimented one another.
We would often find we wanted to convey the story of a 4 hour race to a huge social media audience, fighting for attention with a myriad of other events that day. What user wants to click a link to go and read a dry 1,500 word story of the race?!
I found a much more enjoyable and well received approach was to use a basic infographic approach to share the thoughts of the drivers and an overview of the race result. The users enjoyed that increased feeling of linking with the drivers and having a truly ‘behind the visor’ insight.
